I would be remiss if I didn’t take this opportunity to make a public statement in support of the men and women who put their lives on the line for our freedom. While the turn of events, since I drafted this, certainly are reason to celebrate, the men and women of our armed forces are not yet home. As we celebrate their successes lest we not forget their friends and loved ones who patiently await their safe return.

Those very friends and loved ones are our customers, clients, colleagues and mere acquaintances. These are the folks that deal with the anxieties of uncertainty with a heightened awareness. "High Alert" warnings and imbedded media coverage creates additional stresses to everyone’s already busy lives. For this very reason we should assume the responsibility of honing our customer service skills in an effort to identify and diffuse situations that may not have in the past needed diffused.

Making an extra effort to display empathy and patience is paramount. Simply taking a few extra minutes to just "listen" may be all that is needed to resolve a possibly confrontational situation or turn a potentially unpleasant experience into an amicable one.

Whether one chooses to stay on top of the constant media coverage or only follow the headlines, our awareness and understanding of homeland anxieties will benefit us as we maneuver through our business day. Keep in mind that we never know the personal situations of those whose paths we cross. The person you are about to meet may very well have a loved one or friend putting their life on the line for our country.

May we all support the safe return of our troops and practice patience and sensitivity as we carry out our business responsibilities!

Well, the time is nearing (Monday, May 12th) for our 6th annual charity golf tournament. it promises to be great fun on one of Florida's most exclusive golf courses, Lake Nona. Please make your reservations as soon as possible, you won't want to miss this event. You could win a new Jaguar (hole-in-one contest) or $10,000.00 (putting contest).

Sponsorships are still available. Call Scott Pollock with any questions you may have on being a sponsor for this great event to support The Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Women. If you can help with raffle prizes, please call either Scott Pollock (321-689-2794), or Jane Bullock (407-841-0111).

So you think you’re fit!!! Your organization, that is. Well, your local chapter will be sponsoring the first Annual Industry Challenge - a special Olympics of sorts with the residential folks competing against the commercial folks. We always said it took more to manage residential than commercial. Hold on, who said that?? It was my understanding the dealing with those office tenants took much more savvy.

Watch for more information as this new event unfolds. Be picking your teams. It will be an all day event for IREM members, their teams and families. Fun, Food, Competition, and yes, some humility, will fill the day.

Anyone interested in serving on the task force, please contact Robin at 407-323-6653.

Our Chapter’s Friends of IREM program provides an excellent opportunity for members to develop relationships with reputable, quality service providers and other real estate related professionals. We are fortunate to have several outstanding companies among our Friends of IREM membership and if you have not had the chance to become acquainted with these Friends I encourage you to do so.

Partner, well-wisher, confidante and advocate are all synonyms for friend and all those words together describe the many roles our IREM Friends serve. How many times do we call other property managers and ask them if they know a good contractor of one type or another? When we are searching for that particular service provider, how often do we think of our Friends of IREM? In an effort to give our Friends a more effective role and to provide a greater benefit to all our members, we would like to know just how often you think of and consider our Friends members. Would you take a few moments and complete the short survey linked below? Your candid responses will be appreciated.
