A WORD FROM THE PRESIDENT......
Last month I wrote about Chapter Committees and asked each member to take an active part in
the Chapter by joining a committee. I am pleased to tell you that some members responded
to this call to action and I thank you. If you haven’t yet joined a Committee please do.
Please don't wait for us to call you (because we are busy just like you). Call our
Administrator, Meridythe Kanaga, or me and we will get you signed on.
Do you have a Management Plan you would be willing to share with others? We want to
establish a Management Plan library for our members and would like to have several
management plans for each property type. Wouldn’t you have liked to have some sample plans
to refer to when you prepared yours? Help a fellow member and get that old Plan out of the
drawer and send Meridythe a copy.
Speaking of helping fellow members…Are you willing to partner up with a CPM Candidate and
assist them with the process of earning the CPM designation? Some Candidates have already
found partners and more are needed. It is an easy job and the help is immensely
appreciated.
There have been some outstanding job opportunities posted on the Chapter’s Job bank. If
you are looking for a job or have a job to fill please check the Jobs section of our
Website www.IREM60.org. The service is free. The Job
bank was opened only a few months
ago so it is still a work in progress and needs your support.
Another great and free service of the Chapter is the library. Again, you can find it at
our Website and members can check out some outstanding IREM publications.
It is hard to believe that we will soon be observing the first anniversary of the September
11 tragedy. Among the many unsung heroes of this tragedy were numerous property
management and property maintenance professionals. Their advance emergency planning
and preparations, their well executed response and their loyalty to their tenants and
properties significantly reduced the injuries and deaths that resulted from those
unbelievable terrorists' acts. Clearly, those property management professionals
performed heroically.
We should all heed the lessons of this tragic event and make certain we are prepared
to provide appropriate responses to all types of emergencies.

SUMMARY OF EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING
August 8, 2002
- The Treasurer’s report projects a surplus of funds at year-end and ideas for
investing the funds in the Chapter were discussed. It was suggested a reserve fund be
established and other ideas included redesigning the Chapter website and securing a new
vendor to host the website. This discussion will be continued at the September meeting.
- Approximately 6 students have registered for the FIN 201 course to be held on
August 28 and 29. Final registration numbers have not yet been received from National.
7 students are needed to break even and there was a consensus the course should not be
cancelled even if the break-even point is not met.

$305/$395 for a 2 day course and $550/$630 for a one week course.

and possibly a revised format will be announced soon. The Council decided to give the
volunteer instructors complimentary copies of the textbook, Preparing for Terrorism – A
Property Manager's Guide.
- Scott Pollock announced Maria Baldizon and Gloria Dowling are newly approved

be making presentations.

newsletter and the monthly production. An improved and more attractive layout and
a user-friendly format are the goals of this agreement.
