NEWS FROM THE PRESIDENT......
We have an outstanding membership meeting planned for Wednesday, March 13th. IREM’S
National President, Ed Boudreau, will attend and will participate in our annual Industry
Forecast Program. President Boudreau will lead a panel of industry experts in a forum
on the current state of our business. Mark your calendars, tell your colleagues and plan
to attend. Additional details will be mailed to you soon.
Special thanks goes to Teresa Clark, of Adler Management Services. Teresa and her company
have generously given the Chapter full use of their conference room facilities to use for
Chapter sponsored educational courses. The facilities are state of the art and a great
enhancement to our educational offerings. Thank you Teresa!
It is time to complete and submit your annual Income/Expense surveys. The information
gathered from these surveys provides the most comprehensive financial performance benchmark
found in our industry. Submit your information by March 1st and see how your properties’
compare. You can now submit your data on-line (rest assured it is secure and confidential).
If you need more information on this important program, please contact Mez Birdie at
407.650.1150 or mbirdie@cnlreit.com.
The Florida Legislature is in session and I encourage you to stay informed. Chuck
Mitchell, Legislative Chairman, reports over 800 bills have been introduced many of which
have a direct impact on our business. To name just a few…Service taxes, Windstorm
insurance, Real Estate Commissions, and the all-pervasive once a decade redrawing of the
legislative districts’ boundaries. Contact Chuck Mitchell for more information at
407.872.0209 or cmitchell@fcpg.com.
Officer Nadine Piazza of the Orlando Police Department and Vicki Robles, Public Safety
Education Supervisor for the City of Orlando Fire Department, presented the January
Program. They provided excellent practical tips for protecting your tenants and your
property. They also introduced us to 2 excellent emergency training programs: The CERT
Program (Community Emergency Response Team) trains citizens on proper response techniques
in the critical period immediately after a disaster and before emergency personnel arrive.
The point was made that in the case of a major disaster, emergency personnel may be delayed
or may not be able to respond. Contact Vicki Robles, CERT Coordinator, at 407.246.3128.
The other program is called the Crime Free Multi-Housing Program (CFMH) and is directed
at residential managers. The seminar covers gangs, fire safety, code enforcement and
property liability. Property’s that have implemented the CFMH Program have benefited from
significant improvements in public safety and reductions in calls to the police of 50%
and more. Contact Officer Nadine Piazza at 407.246.2097 to learn more about the program.
It is a busy time both for the Chapter and in our business and I know it is difficult to
find any extra time. The Chapter needs you and I encourage you to participate however you
can. You will be glad you did.
