Message from the President-Five Star Award

Congratulations to Central Florida IREM Chapter 60 for achieving 5-Star status for the second year in a row! The 5-Star status is the highest rating an IREM chapter can achieve.

Two years ago IREM Headquarters came up with a program and formula by which all chapters can measure their effectiveness. This program is called the Chapter Star Workbook. By using this workbook we are able to stay on track to be sure we are meeting our goals in many areas including financial reporting, chapter meetings, student outreach and more.

We have been blessed in Central Florida by having great chapter leaders in many committee positions. In the first year of the Chapter Star program, Ann Reisch, CPM, was our President and led us to the top while navigating this new program. Last year our President Pedro Vermales, CPM, guided to another award-winning year.

Thanks go out to all our committee members who have contributed so much to make our chapter one of the very best.

We have some committee positions available at this time so that you can be an active part of your chapter. The payoff is that you will get to network with top professionals in our industry while having fun. Call me today so we can discuss the various opportunities that are available to you no matter what your interests or time constraints.

I appreciate your continued membership in IREM and your local chapter. We are here to be of service to you.

Sincerely,

Kevin Grail, CPM, 407-701-2003; www.irem60.org

Comprehensive Grounds Management for Commercial Properties

There are many details to consider when it comes to keeping your grounds in top condition. After all, most commercial properties have a wide variety of trees, shrubs and lawn areas, along with flower and mulch beds in all sizes, shapes and kinds to be cared for. Each of these areas needs ongoing maintenance in order to look their best throughout the year.

When you think of your commercial property as a living, growing investment, it makes sense to enhance it with professional grounds management that will keep it growing in beauty and value for years to come. This includes both lawn and landscape maintenance programs through each season of the year.

With a grounds management plan that addresses the needs of your entire landscape, you’ll be presenting your commercial property in the best light possible. For full details, tips and suggestions on how to develop your individual landscape plan, visit our website at www.nanaks.com Double click on In the News and review some of our articles that were written for national publications.

Throughout history, termites are among the most ancient insects. The Romans referred to these insects as “Termes” which means “woodworms”. Termites have been known to eat wood and other cellulose materials. To this day, termite diet remains the same. Despite of these long known facts about termites, people including less experienced pest control professionals often confuse termites with ants because of their resembling appearance and swarming habits at the same time of year. Upon closer scrutiny, however, there are several key differences of these insects. Here are three useful categories to differentiate the two.

APPEARANCE:

TERMITE

VS ANTS
1. Straight Antennae
1. Elbowed/ bent Antennae
2. Two pairs of wings of equal length 2. Two pairs of wings of unequal length
3. No eyes 3. With eyes
4. Waist thick 4. Waist thin
5. Light, soft-bodied 5. Darker, hard-bodied
