 President's Message

Dear members,

It is hard to believe that the end of the year is just around the corner, and my term as your President is now ending. While reflecting on our chapter’s many accomplishments this past year, I am proud and amazed at how hard everyone has worked to improve and strengthen our organization. As you may recall, this year the Star Recognition Program was introduced and embraced by our chapter. It served as a blueprint to keep us all focused and on-track with the many new challenges that were presented as part of this program. As a result, we did many new things in an effort to enhance the value of your membership in our chapter.

Some of the programs that were added this year include a mentor program for our candidates, property tours of vibrant real estate projects, an advertising campaign to raise the image of IREM’s credentials in the community, a new community service project with Habitat for Humanity, and the ability to participate in our monthly board meetings by conference call for those in our outlying areas or who are traveling. Administratively, we created job descriptions for all of our leadership positions and created “notebooks” to pass on to our successors. We updated our existing policy manual and started the visioning process to create a long-term strategic plan for our chapter. We also experienced a 24 percent growth spurt in our CPM candidate membership category with many of our associate and student members, along with others, deciding to pursue their CPM designations!

All in all, it has been a fantastic year and I want to thank all of you for your friendship, kindness, and support throughout the year!

Enthusiastically,

Ann Reisch
2006 Chapter President

CCIM / IREM Success Series  Conference 2006 - Tampa, FL

Dear fellow IREM members:

I recently returned from the CCIM / IREM Success Series Conference 2006, held in Tampa, in October. This was my first experience attending an IREM business and governance meeting on a national level. To get directly to the heart of the matter, the meeting was very worthwhile, enlightening, and fun. I heartily recommend that you consider attending next October when the event will be held in San Antonio.

For a complete (and more professional) review of highlights from guest speakers, discussing the direction of our marketplace, to the thoughts of Governor Mario Cuomo, please click on this link:

I wish all of the best and hope to see you there next year.

Sincerely,

Kevin Grail, CPM

Who Says Managers Can’t Do Manual
 Work Manage?

Several of your fellow members spent a Saturday working for Habitat for Humanity. They learned how to walk on a roof, use an electric table saw, and remove shiners.

Shiner: a nail that penetrates the plywood but does not hit the stud

They did all this for a very worthy cause, building a house for a local family. They were all very happy to go back to managing properties on Monday instead of building them. We had so much fun that we are doing it again next year; so look for the announcement and join us!

 2007 Planning Session Update

Our 2007 planning session was held on September 29, 2006. During this meeting, we discussed the different committee purposes and programs considered for next year. A recent survey of our members ranked the need for educational programs and usable services that can deliver immediate personal and professional growth as most important. Our 2007 proposed activities and lunch meeting programs are being designed with your suggestions in mind.

Mark your calendars now for the 2007 lunch meeting dates:

January 16th, March 3rd, May 8th, July 10th, September 11th, and November 5th.

Also, don't forget our officer's installation dinner on November 7, 2006. Invitations are forthcoming.

I would like to thank the participants in our planning session and encourage the rest of you to join us at our lunches and executive meetings.

 Installation Dinner

It’s incredible to think that another IREM installation dinner has come and gone. Once again, Chapter 60 had its annual dinner at the fine Westin Grand Bohemian Hotel. The night was full of great food and IREM cheer. Chapter 60’s 2006 President, Ann Reisch, spoke of all the highlights and accomplishments it had this year. At last year’s dinner, Chapter 60 was introduced to the Star Recognition Program, which was enacted to recognize the accomplishments of each chapter. This year it was revealed that Chapter 60 is in the rankings to be a five-star chapter. This is a tremendous accomplishment after only one year of practice!

The following people/organizations were recognized for their commitment to IREM during 2006:

  • Kevin Grail received the
CPM Candidate of the Year Award.
  • Mike McConnell received the
    CPM of the Year Award.
  • Monica Perez received the
Associate Member of the Year Award.
  • Cameo Professionals received the
    AMO of the Year Award.

We were fortunate to have Reggie Mullins, CPM, 2007 President-elect for IREM HQ, from Washington D.C., come and speak to the group about IREM on a national level. If there was one point she wanted every guest to leave knowing about that night, it was www.IREM.org.
