 President's Message

Dear members,

It’s my privilege and honor to serve as your president in the coming year. Having just attended the Education Conference inScottsdale,Arizona, I am reminded of all the great things this organization does to support all of us in our careers. I am proud to be a member of IREM and am moved to be in the company of such bright and dedicated professionals from around the world.

Highlights from this year’s conference included some exciting new developments. A new certification program was approved from commercial site managers who manage a portfolio of 20,000 – 120,000 square feet of property. This program will mirror the existing ARM certification program currently available to residential practitioners.

It was also determined that there should be a single code of ethics for both the CPM and ARM members, to hold all designated members of the Institute to the same ethical standards. A draft of the new code has been created and will be posted on the IREM Web site for review and comment before being finalized.

Major upgrades to the IREM Web site are also planned for the coming year. As a part of this re-design, IREM FIRST will be enhanced to become a more valuable resource available to you. As a repository of useful knowledge related to our industry, there are new ideas being developed to assist you with industry related issues. I invite you to log-on to IREM FIRST if it has been a while, to refresh yourself on the resources available to you here.

I look forward to the coming year and to working with all of you so that together we can enjoy meaningful chapter experiences.

Enthusiastically,

Ann Reisch
President, Chapter 60

IREM Identifies Technology as Top Item on Industry Agenda

During the Governing Council session, 2006 IREM President Fred Prassas, CPM highlighted IREM's scanning initiatives in 2005 and re-capped the top four business challenges cited by our members:

1. Technology
2. Workforce Development
3. Business Competition
4. Risk Management.

Governing Councilors were asked to prioritize these issues. Technology was voted as the most important issue facing the real estate management industry. The prioritization of these business challenges will shape IREM's future programming.
